Airport Blues - Australian Open 2008 Day 1
Just thought since I did get wireless access for free here in LAX that I'd try to actually post a second entry for the day. The flights to this point have been uneventful, though leaving at Noon EST and realizing that I'm almost 12 hours into this odyssey and still have at least 19 more is somewhat daunting a prospect.
I don't really have much more to say. I did manage to speak to Colleen on both layovers and it is evident this one will be the hardest trip I've made. Leaving her at home pregnant and feeling vulnerable is the worst possible feeling I could have right now. I know she's strong, but I don't want her to have to be right now. Oh well, we'll survive. Of course, she doesn't have the ability to drown her sorrows in booze this time, so we'll see how bad it gets before it gets better.
So far, so good. The knee hasn't hurt as badly as it has the last couple of weeks. That means I'm either getting better or getting better at tolerating the pain. I don't know which, honestly, but at least I am not gimpy around the airport.
Still haven't taken the shower I swore I was going to take. I even dealt with the nonsense of a 1 quart bag of liquids (well, just a travel deodorant) so that I could and haven't even found out what it might take. If nothing else, it assures I can shower when I get to Melbourne, even if my luggage is lost.
Traveling as a split group is somewhat nerve wracking for me. I don't like not knowing where the rest of the guys are, and since there's only the one flight out nightly, they can't really afford to miss this one. Just have to hope the DFW weather held and there were no real connection issues they had to contend with.
Anyway, not much else to say at this point. Time for me to drop off.
Cheers!
